To be a Southernite is to fully realize the beauty of one's self: my Blackness and femininity, my perseverance and grind, my commitment and service were strengthened because of Southern University! ​



Ebony's Bio:

Ebony M. Baylor is a native of Shreveport, Louisiana and has worked in state legislative politics and grassroots organizing for candidates and issues advocacy campaigns.


In 2008, Ebony graduated from Southern University A&M College, Baton Rouge, LA where she received her Bachelor of Art in Political Science. In 2013, she received her Master’s of Public Administration with a Non-Profit Management Concentration from Southern, as well.


From 2012 to 2014, Ebony served as the Outreach Coordinator for Louisiana Democratic Party. She created the Hope2Vote initiative which worked with faith leaders by providing civic engagement programming and helped to increase voter participation in the Black community for the 2014 midterm election. In 2015, Ebony joined the National Urban League leaving as the Director of Civic Engagement where she educated and mobilized National Urban League affiliates, auxiliary groups, clients, and broader community about voter engagement, 2020 Census, and issues important to the Urban League movement.


Ms. Baylor currently serves as the Director of Political Surrogate Operations & Events and Deputy African American Political Director for the Democratic National Committee. As the Director of Political Surrogate Operations and Events, she manages a centralized surrogate program; helping to provide programming and logistical support for surrogates to appear at events on behalf of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). In the role of the Deputy African American Political Director, Ebony is the primary designer and implementer of new and continuing DNC organizing and programming directed at Black women.


She continues to pursue her Philosophy of Doctorate in Political Science at Howard University, concentrating in Black Politics and American Government and minoring in Public Administration and Policy.


Ebony is proud active member of the Southern University Alumni Washington DC Chapter and served as the 3rd Vice President in 2018.
