What does it mean to be a Southernite?
To be a Southernite means responsibility. We have a responsibility to financially support initiatives that enhance the student experience. We have a responsibility to lend our expertise and energy to push Southern University beyond what our ancestors imagined. Lastly, we have a responsibility to inspire the generations following us to relentlessly chase their dreams.
Kijuan's Bio:
Kijuan Poland, MBA is a Baton Rouge, LA native. He received his undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Southern University in Baton Rouge. Upon graduation, he embarked on a journey that would take him to South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia where the foundation of his engineering career was developed. While in Georgia, an old passion spawned into a new career path. Kijuan enjoyed helping people reimagine their career plans and talking through career aspirations. So began his transition to Human Resources.
Kijuan ended his 5-year engineering career to attend Louisiana State University – Shreveport full time to pursue an MBA with a concentration in Human Resource Management. During his matriculation he attained an internship in Florida where he gained practical experience in Talent Management. Before completing his MBA program, Kijuan accepted a full-time offer to return to Florida as an Engagement & Inclusion Specialist at the Harris Corporation corporate headquarters. In this role, he researched and implemented initiatives that would drive employee engagement as well as improve diversity representation. A year later, he would find himself transitioning into a new role that never existed before with a newly merged company, L3Harris Technologies. He is responsible for developing and maintaining a strategic plan for corporate talent acquisition with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion.
Throughout this journey, Kijuan started K. Poland Consulting, LLC where he works with individuals who are seeking guidance regarding resume building and development, LinkedIn optimization, and career planning.
Kijuan currently serves as the Membership Chair for the Southern University Young Alumni Network (SUYAN).
