Latoyia M. Clemons is currently the Program Director for Electronic Media Communications / WJAB-TV at the Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama. In this role, Ms. Clemons is responsible for creating, developing and producing content for the University’s television station with a focus on students, public affairs, community affairs and non-profit organizations. In 2017, she began the premier news program for the University which highlights the positive achievements of the students, faculty and staff. She also created and manages digital content, station contracts, program releases and WJAB-TV Student Volunteer/Intern Program.
Ms. Clemons believes that the road to success is not easy. She began her communications career at WAAY-TV (ABC affiliate) in 2005 as a Production Assistant. During her time as a Production Assistant, she would spend her down time volunteering writing stories for the newscasts. Within three years, she was promoted to Associate Producer. Within one year, she was promoted to Producer for the Midday Newscast at the station. Her main role was to revamp and increase the ratings for the Midday News. Within one year, the ratings improved and became the highest viewed Midday News for all the local television stations.
While working, Ms. Clemons has also utilized her communications background by serving as a Communications Specialist/writer for newspapers, websites and organizations such as the National Baptist Convention, USA, Speakin' Out News and the Communications/Public Relations Team for First Missionary Baptist Church .She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated-Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society, National Association of Black Journalists, National Association of Parliamentarians, NAACP, Lions Club and a Life Member of the Southern University Alumni Federation.
Ms. Clemons is a 2004 graduate of Southern University and A&M College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communications with a concentration in Broadcasting. She received her Master’s Degree in Communications in 2018 from Alabama A&M University and she was the first student in the program to graduate with a 4.0 GPA.
